Living with Freaks

This past Sunday, June 7th, our sweet Chloe was baptized.

While not the oldest of our children (those in this local Body of Believers), Chloe was the first to request to be baptized. After much discussion between her and her parents, Aaron and Amy (the parents) felt like this was the right thing to do.

This time together was simply beautiful. It truly felt like I was watching the heavens and the earth collide. One second it felt so normal, the next so supernatural. Chloe is ours. We love her. We have invested our lives in her. And here she was: sweet, innocent, beautiful - declaring that she wanted Jesus.

We gathered at Ravi and Diane's, huddled together in the backyard. Aaron (Chloe's father) shared from his heart, and Amy shared from hers. Scripture was read and then we prayed. Quietly, Aaron climbed into the jacuzzi, took his daughter by the hands, led her in, and baptized her.

And we celebrated.

People clapped. People yelled (okay, it was just Ravi and me that yelled). Joy filled the place (the backyard, that is). Each took a turn hugging Chloe and telling her how much she was loved (by God and by us). And then we celebrated by eating together...grilling, eating, celebrating, fellowshipping.

All the while, I thought to myself, this is churchlife. This is what life is about. For a moment, there was no flesh. There was no fallen world. There was only Jesus Christ and His glorious, beautiful Body.

Thank you, Chloe.
